Tarte Toasted Palette | Just Another Warm Palette?

Tarte Toasted Palette Review and Swatches

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]arte Cosmetics has finally come out with a third ‘Tartelette’ palette, and keeping with current trends, it’s full of warm neutral shadows. Aptly named Toasted*, I was instantly drawn to how balanced this looks compared to some warm toned palettes on the market right now. The real question though is, “Is it just another warm palette?”. Let’s find out how to stacks up…

Tarte Cosmetics ‘Tartelette Toasted’ Palette Review

I already own the original Tartelette Palette {all matte neutral shadows; review here} and the Tartelette in Bloom* {mix of shimmer and matte including some duplicates of the original Tartelette; neutral/cool toned}. As far as I can see, Toasted has 12 new shadow shades. This is a must for me in terms of purchasing a permanent palette these days. Like In Bloom, it has a mix of matte and shimmers. I love that they balanced a mix of light and dark shadows in both formulas.

There are only two shades that might give a bit of trouble on the eye if not applied correctly. Crackle, which is a matte base with golden sparkle, best applies as a liner or with a dense brush on top of a base to grip the shimmer. I didn’t experience glitter fallout so to speak, but felt the golden shimmer showed better with this technique. Likewise, the shade Candle is a less refined in texture than the other shimmers and would benefit from a wet brush or patting on top of a base to show the true potential. Both are stunning shadows, when applied well!

The matte shadows performed beautifully as I’ve come to expect from Tarte. They apply smooth and almost creamy in texture, but do kick up a bit when you dip your brush. As always, my swatches are single pass with no base underneath so you can truly see the nature of the pigment. I was pleased to see two palette highlight/browbone shades in matte and shimmer. More so, I was even more impressed that they applied full pigment on my NC20 skin tone!

I think where Toasted really stands on its own as a warm-toned eyeshadow palette, is how balanced it is in terms of light to dark transition. There really aren’t any redundant shades here; You’ve got coppery tones, golden hues and champagnes.

Is it possible that Tarte’s Tartlette Toasted is my favourite of the three? Highly. It’s not my only warm palette by any means, but it’s possibly one of my most wearable. When you pair that with a nice full sized mirror, sturdy packaging and compact size it rises to the front of the pack!
