GETTING A COMPLIMENT IS THE BEST.
But so is giving one!
Here’s the thing, people are pretty.
But when we only ever give appearance-focused compliments, it perpetuates the notion that physical attributes are held at a higher value than anything else. If these are the only characteristics that a person gets complimented on positively, it becomes problematic in the sense that they don’t see more value in themselves beyond their ‘nice hair’ ‘weight loss’ or ‘pretty smile’.
In early 2007, I left an emotionally and verbally abusive gaslighting relationship.
Each January I catch myself reflecting on how far I’ve come, and wondering if I’ve accomplished enough.
I suppose that’s frequent and familiar feeling that I am not unique in struggling with if I asked around. It has got me thinking about how different my January of 2007 was. Ten years ago (at time of this post originally) I was suffering silently in a controlling and emotionally abusive relationship. I am breaking my silence to let you all know the warning signs.

Sometimes it’s a think piece, other times it’s a fluffy review on an eyeshadow palette. Occasionally it’s to bring to light serious issues that need attention, like escaping an emotionally abusive relationship or spot a gaslighter.
Of course, no one is holding a gun to your head to read my content, but Google Analytics tells there’s a constant growing wonderful audience that do. And I am humbled and grateful, always.
But we’re in some unprecedented hard times folks…
I DON’T ‘DO’ NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.
They’re like an instant fast track to failure in my mind. It’s like the minute you put it out there in the universe, you’re destined to let yourself down. And here’s the thing: I don’t want to let myself down anymore. There’s a whole world out there that can disappoint you if you let it, but I refuse to continue to be the source of my own downfall anymore!

In the last 2 years, there are have been two very large crashes on Instagram that had the site down for 20+ hours.
If there’s one thing I took away from “The Great Instagram Outtage”, it’s that having your own platform as a content creator is not only valid but necessary.
Going into 2021, this has never rung true more.
SEVERAL YEARS AGO I WROTE A TONGUE IN CHEEK POST ABOUT WORKING RETAIL (OR ANY SERVICE-BASED INDUSTRY) OVER THE HOLIDAY SEASON, AND I FEEL THAT WITH LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO UNTIL CHRISTMAS IT’S DUE TO BE REVIVED.
You all may or may not know, but my previous career was retail-based and If you’ve ever worked in any sort of service industry or retail (and everyone should be made to work a Christmas in retail once in their life in my humble opinion) then you’ll know that familiar dread that comes this time of year.

For better or worse, we grow in life and sometimes relationships we form don’t grow with us. This can go for romantic relationships as well as family and friends.
A breakup from a spouse or partner can be incredibly hard and life-altering. Often, it’s for the better, and this can be the case with friendship too. There comes a time where you might recognize that a person in your life just doesn’t make you happy. Perhaps they actually are quite toxic? But how do you break up with a friend and why does it seem so hard for us to do?
