5 Products I Didn’t Think I’d Like, But I Did
It’s probably no surprise as a blogger that writes about makeup and beauty products and an overall beauty industry enthusiast, that I can be pretty picky about what I am looking for in a product. I don’t often settle for products that don’t do exactly what I want, and I usually have a solid idea if I’m going to like something before I purchase.
From time to time however, something will totally surprise me and prove my prior notions wrong. Here’s a handful of products that I am glad to say well out performed what I expected.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water – What can I say – ‘Primer Water’ didn’t exactly lead to feel like this was going to do much of anything. It truly does keep my makeup on longer, smoother and fresher throughout the day though, and sits completely undetectable on the skin. If you’ve never liked primers that are silicone based, or feel greasy, this one is definitely for you!
Benefit Roller Curl Mascara – I really didn’t have high hopes for this after being sorely let down by They’re Real. I was worried the formula was going to be an utter b!tch to remove and leave me with clumped, forever sticky lashes like its older sister did. I was pleased to find out that Roller Lash didn’t have the same wet sticky formula and actually set up quite nicely. Besides that, it performed as promised and came off with my usual cleanser as well – no tugging and rubbing and lost lashes.
Mac Pro Longwear Concealer – I honestly thought this was going to be too thin to have the coverage, and dry too cakey to be decent under the eyes where I wanted it. I couldn’t be more wrong! The key with this product is to pop it under your eyes and then let it settle for a few seconds before patting it in with a dense brush. Works like a charm!
Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade – This honestly had ‘crayon brows’ written all over it in my mind. I couldn’t imagine how it could ever look natural, but the key is in the brush (Anastasia #12 is a must!) and the technique (way way way less then what you think, and then even less than that. It’s a building product, not a scribble on and go brow). Once I was set with my brow routine I benefitted from the fact that it lasts all day and keeps coverage in my fair fine brows.
L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara – I should have known I would like this given how much I love the original Butterfly formula, but that brush honestly scared me a bit. It took a bit of getting used to, as did the original formula, but turns out I freaking love this stuff! Talk about full long lashes – it was love at first coat!
