Laura Mercier Just Did Something Brilliant | Exotic Redefined Palette Review
Have you ever bought an eyeshadow palette because you fell in love with certain shades but wished they were matte when they were shimmer? Or perhaps there was a couple shadows that were the perfect tones to work together, but would have had more impact if one was more metallic? The Laura Mercier Exotic Redefined Palette is kind of brilliant; There are 12 shadows, 6 mattes and 6 shimmer/metallic, and they completely correspond and mirror each other! With options like that, it’s got me asking myself, “why don’t more brands do this?”

Laura Mercier Exotics Redefined Palette Review
LImited Edition, Available at Nordstrom | Neiman Marcus | Laura Mercier | Selfridges
You guys know by now, I am a big fan of the Laura Mercier eyeshadow formula. I’ve reviewed previous palettes like the Caviar Extreme Neutrals and the Artist Palette. The mattes are super soft and smooth and never chalky. The shimmers are refined and buildable without glitter fallout. I’ve yet to be disappointed, and the Exotics Redefined Palette continues on with that trend!
What I love the most is that the top row is all shimmer/metallic, and the bottom row all mattes. More so, notice that they mirror each other; For every matte shade, there is a matching shimmer or metallic shadow! I’ve often bought palettes because I love the tone of a shadow but wished the finish was different. I find it even more annoying when the shimmer/matte shadows in a palette seem to be in the reverse of what I would normally like. So Laura Mercier’s concept behind this palette is brilliant in my opinion!
As you can see by my swatches (always single swipe, without a primer) the pigment is on point in this palette, as I’ve come to expect from the brand. The matte formula is exceptional; It blends without disappearing and they layer on top of each other really well. The shimmer textures build really well, unlike some brands where the formula is thinner and loses its lustre upon application. There is one shadow that has a bit more texture to it, the platinum champagne shade in the top row, but even it sticks really well to the lid when I pat it on with a fingertip (my preferred method of choice for these types of finishes).
The balance of colour in this palette is also really well thought out; There is a full spectrum of light to dark with transition and blending shades. There is also a great mix of undertones, making it perfect for warm, cool and neutral lovers alike. Everything is packaged up in a sleek magnetic closure palette that feels incredibly sturdy (I’ve travelled with these and have never encountered and damage) with a great quality mirror.
Laura Mercier Exotics Redefined Palette Final Thoughts
Limited Edition, Available at Nordstrom | Neiman Marcus | Laura Mercier | Selfridges
If I had to say there was a con or downside to this palette, it would be that it isn’t available at Sephora, which is the easiest retailer for me to shop at personally. Occasionally the brand does this, where they only release certain holiday launches at certain retailers. In this case it is complete worth ordering online if you don’t have one of the stores listed above near you; This palette truly is a total win for me.
I would hurry up there, this is limited edition and most retailers seem to have limited stock!
