Postpartum Beauty To Make You Feel Human Again

Postpartum Beauty Must Haves

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]aving a newborn colicky baby means every single minute counts. Most mornings in the early days I often had to remind myself to brush my teeth (I know, seriously) and putting on a full face just didn’t happen. Here’s the thing though – putting on a little makeup just makes me feel human. Sometimes you just need a little help to feel good in those days/weeks/months after having a baby and I’m one for doing what you need to do to feel better. Regardless if you’re a shoe person, a fashion person, hair or makeup, you should do what you need to in order to put your best mom-face forward. These are the products I relied on in the early days when I had a spare 5 minutes to make me look and feel human (even if I’d been in my nightgown all day!).

These products helped me look and feel human again after my c section surgery and in the first few weeks of bringing baby home!

Benefit Puff Off

Available at  Ulta | Look Fantastic | Birchbox

Let’s face it, if you have a newborn, you probably aren’t sleeping loads. It only takes a few (long) days and (short) nights to see it affect your eyes, which are a clear indication of a tired new mama. Puff Off is one of the few eye creams I’ve tried that depuffs tired, sore eyes in seconds. It feels so nice and cooling and soothing when you apply, and it even applies well over makeup if you need a mid-day perk up (don’t we all?)

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

Available at Sephora | Nordstrom | Ulta | FeelUnique

On days when I’m rapid fire slapping makeup on my face so I can get out the door with the baby before she starts melting down, I need something that I can put on with my hands. This tinted moisturizer has more coverage (light-medium) than the average tint, and blends in like a dream! It also has SPF 30 in it which is great for those who have babies in the summer months and need to factor in sun protection.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

Available at Sephora | Ulta | Beauty Bay | Cult Beauty

When it comes to feeling like my eyes don’t disappear into my face, I immediately turn to my brows. While I could skip liner and shadow if I needed to, brows and mascara are non-negotiable for me. The Dipbrow Pomade gives me the assurance that my brows are going to stay put all day, regardless of how many meltdowns (hers or mine!) there are. Even if I haven’t had the chance to wash my hair, or get out of loungewear (let’s be serious, I’m living in yoga pants post C Section…), having my brows on makes all the difference.

Surratt Beauty Relevee Eyelash Curler*

Available at Sephora | Cult Beauty | Net-a-Porter

Now speaking of eyes disappearing – nothing makes me look awake and alert like curling my lashes. I kid you not when I say that I brought my eyelash curler to the hospital with me and it was the first thing I did after washing my face when I could finally get out of bed and walk to the mirror. I’ve got long lashes that non-existent until they have a curl, and I’ve not gone a day without curling them since I was about 16. My old favourite is the Shu Uemura, but dare I say the Surratt Beauty curler is edging it out at the moment?!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Diffused Bronze Light

Available at Sephora | Net-a-Porter | Nordstrom

The undertone of this bronzer is slightly cooler than most, meaning it gives your cheeks shape as well as warmth. Unlike most bronzers, I feel like this one adds enough to my complexion that if I need to, I can wear minus brush/highlight/contour. It’s perfect for someone who wants to add some depth to a puffy, post-baby face and has little to no time!

Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara*

Available at Sephora | Ulta | Nordstrom

By now you all know I love this – it adds volume, thickness, and drama to my otherwise fair fine lashes. If you’re relying on a mascara solely to make your eyes pop – this is the one! Plus it’s a long wear formula that doesn’t practically take paint thinner to remove when you finally get a chance to get into bed at the end of the day!

Clinique Pep-Start Pout Restoring Lip Mask

Available at Sephora | FeelUnique |

The last product might just be the most important. After having Everly, my lips were the driest they’d ever been. No doubt due to all the panting and breathing through contractions, then the post-surgery recovery. I kid you not, I went through about 3 tubes of lip balm in the first 2 weeks. In desperation, I ordered this, and really like it! It’s not sticky, lasts ages and doesn’t leave my lips in worse condition than they were. This will be a definite repurchase!

  1. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is an issue that too few folks are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I came across this during my search for something regarding this.|

  2. I’m impressed by anyone who can work Dipbrow into a 5 minute makeup routine! I could have 5 hours to do my makeup and still not make Dipbrow look good haha! Does that Clinique lip balm have a tint or anything or is it just clear? Super curious about it

  3. I HAD NO IDEA about the dry lips. Oh man, I have drier lips on the regular, I cringe to know how mine would be after labour! I didn’t realize that Clinique line had a Lip Mask too.
