IT Cosmetics Matte CC Cream on Dry Skin

It Cosmetics CC Matte Cream Review

When IT Cosmetics launched the Your Skin But Better CC Cream, it took the beauty world by storm.
Soon after they launched the Illumination version, so it was only a matter of time before the IT Cosmetics CC Cream Matte version came along.

Honestly, I didn’t give it a thought as a dry skinned girl. Then I started hearing that the wear time was even better than the original and my curiosity was piqued.

My only gripe with the original is that I felt it didn’t always make it through a workday. When the brand reached out to see if I’d like to test it, I jumped on board!

Geared Toward: The brand claims all skin types.

Key Ingredients: Charcoal, colloidal clay, tea tree, collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid and yes, it does have the snail secretion filtrate that the original formula has.

Claims: Full coverage correcting cream with SPF 40 (Physical) that claims to reduce shine and control oil for up to 12 hours. Charcoal and tea tree are meant to detoxify and help fight blemishes while having a poreless, natural matte finish. Paraben and Phthalate free.

Shade Range: This could use some help in the inclusivity department with a few more dark shades. It mainly caters to the medium/tan crowd and does tend to run dark in the fairer shades.

The shade ‘Light’ is too dark for me, while the next shade lighter, ‘Fair Light’ runs too pink. I mix ‘Fair’ and ‘Light’ to get the best match.

Coverage, Finish & Wear Time: While IT Cosmetics claim these are full coverage (and might be to those who think they are using just another tinted moisturizer) I would say they start at medium and build to full.

The finish is very matte on my dry skin, and it wears for a full day without going patchy, unlike the original on me (which I get more like 7-8 hours instead of 8-10+ hours)

Cruelty-Free: Yes.

My Thoughts: I first tried this on its own using a damp sponge on one side and a buffing brush on the other. It does dry quite quickly and very matte on my dry skin, regardless of the application.

I found a brush the best way to spread it over my skin. It did seem to fill and smooth over my pores nicely.

I did, however, notice that within a few minutes I started to feel tightness from the formula; It was almost a bit prickly for lack of a better term. This went away eventually and while it didn’t emphasize dryness particularly badly, it felt dry all day.

I loved the wear time, it looked just as fresh at the end of the day as it did in the morning with no natural oils breaking through.

On the second try, I put a little half pump of the original formula mixed in. It added just a wee bit of spreadability to make it perfect to buff into my skin! It also took away that tight prickle and gave the finish just a touch more natural of a look for me.

The wear time wasn’t compromised either, which makes it a killer combo! I also tried this with the Illumination version, which gives a similar effect with slightly more glow, but again the longevity I need.

If you’ve loved the original, but wanted something with longer wear time, oil-free and/or a matte finish, I think you’re going to love the Your Skin But Better Oil-Free Matte CC+ Cream.

On its own, it is too matte for me, but a little cocktail with the original makes it just perfect! I love that I don’t have to set with powder to keep it from moving around and the finish stays smooth and flawless all day!
