Can’t Afford it, But Totally Worth It
as a beauty writer, i get the opportunity products in all prices ranges.
Over the 8-ish years I’ve been writing Girl Loves Gloss, I’ve tested and reviewed makeup, skincare and lifestyle items ranging in price from $2-$1000+.
I’ve been sent plenty, and I’ve purchased plenty of products and I’ve reviewed them all with the same critiques and criticisms that I hope translates to an honest and authentic review you all can trust.
Something I consider a lot though, is the question, “Would I repurchase this?” and perhaps a better question I should be asking myself is, “Could I repurchase this?”.
You see, I have fallen in love with many an “expensive” beauty product in my time. And I quote “expensive” because that is a relative term to who’s spending the money. Expensive to one is a bargain to another, so I generally don’t focus a ton on cost (unless it is to use as a comparison tool against a dupe or similar product).
But what about those products that I love, and would like to repurchase, but won’t because of the cost?
Can't Afford it, But Totally Worth It
Let's get real here: life changes needs change and sometimes your budget changes! Products I perhaps would have spend money on a few years ago are still amazing products, but I won't be repurchasing because they're not obtainable, for me, anymore.
Here's 5 products I really LOVE, but just can't justify.
Silver Skin Savior Salicylic/Glycolic Acid Treatment - Omorovicza*
This mask is a GAME CHANGER to anyone who suffers from congested skin. I am constantly getting tiny whiteheads and mini breakouts, and when things get frustrating, I put out this!
It manages to soothe, clear and brighten my skin and when I tell you the results are noticeable right away, I mean it. Plus it works in 5-10 minutes!!
This is one of those products that hurts a bit, because it works like a hot damn and is totally worth the price, but its just not something I can consistently repurchase.
If you have the budget for it, I cant recommend it enough - you can read my blog post about it here.
Magic Away Concealer - Charlotte Tilbury
This formula is definitely a bit magically feeling for my dry skin. It has a flexible quality to it that is beautiful for those of us who are starting to get fine lines and creases.
It also layers really well and can be touched up during the day without getting cakey, which is no small feat.
You don't get much product for the price; Only 4mls for $38, and for that reason, it just isn't economical for me personally, given I wear concealer on the daily thanks to my tired mom eyes!
Refreshing Cleanser - Tata Harper
This cleanser has been one of my favourites for years. There's just something about it my skin loves!
It's soothing, yet effective, and my dry yet congested skin reacts super well to it.
It also has a delish tangerine scent that is invigorating and refreshing... as the name aptly suggests, which I love.
Sadly, with the Canadian price conversion, this tops out over $100 a bottle now, so we won't be reunited with each other any time in the near future.
The Blue Cocoon - May Lindstrom
Ah the product that inspired this entire post: May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon is an absolute TREAT for your skin.
Genuinely, I cant say enough good things. My skin loves it. Its my cure-all for literally any situation my skin finds itself in.
Dryness? Blue Cocoon.
Acne? Blue Cocoon.
Dehydration? Blue Cocoon.
Redness? Blue Cocoon.
You get the point. It's freaking amazing. I've written an entire blog post about it.
But its also over $300 Canadian, and that's just not the kind of scratch I have kicking around these days! One day May and I will be reunited... one day...
Concealer Broad Spectrum SPF 25 - Cle de Peau*
The second concealer in a 5 item list - clearly there is a theme here!
This concealer is a cult classic, and there's a legitimate reason why.
It's pigmented, creamy, and a workhorse of a product. It blends under the eyes just as well as it covers pimples.
And while the shade range isn't great, it somehow magically adapts to my skin in a way I've not really seen a concealer do.
Here's the thing: it sits right around the $100 Canadian mark and that is just way too much for a concealer in my opinion.
what product do you love, but just can’t budget for anymore?
