5 Beauty Blogger Favourites That Don’t Work For Me (and what did instead!)
Before the days of blogs, I got all my knowledge of beauty from magazines. I poured over glossy pages looking to see what was new that month, and which celeb-loved what product. Of course, in my adult years, I’ve come to learn that most products in magazines are there because they are paid to be there. A certain infamous pink and green-tubed mascara comes to mind. Now that we’re in an era of Bloggers, Youtubers and Instagramers, there are a heck of a lot more opinions on beauty out there; It’s awesome! I’ve definitely found some of my favourite products that way, but have also found a few fails. I mean, we can’t love everything we try, right? Here are a few beauty bestsellers and beauty blogger-loved products that just don’t work (for me).

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm
Available at Sephora | Ulta | Look Fantastic
This cleansing balm is a big beauty youtuber favourite because it busts through heavy makeup. Unfortunately for me, it leaves a film on my eyes that hangs around for hours afterwards. I love a good cleansing balm, but this is the only one I have this issue with! I would say if you’re not using it on your eyes but want something to get off sunscreen and face makeup, then it is excellent and a fab value.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation*
Available at Sephora | Ulta | Nordstrom
Too Faced refers to this foundation as radiant, natural looking and full of skin-balancing hydration. sadly, I find it just the opposite! I wanted to love this so badly, but the formula is too thick on my dry, dehydrated skin. While the medium-full coverage claim is correct, it looked too much like makeup on my skin type. I think oily types would probably reap much better rewards than my textured skin did!

Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna
Available at Sephora | Ulta | Space NK
Constantly I hear that this bronzer is a favourite, but the colour just looks yellow on me! I don’t find the pigmentation is good, and the texture doesn’t apply evenly on my skin like I expect. If you like a very golden undertone and want something sheer, then you might love this. For me, however, it just doesn’t tick the box.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara*
Available at Ulta | Target | Amazon
There was no denying that the shape of this mascara wand is very similar to a cult classic from Too Faced that suggests it’s better than a romp in the sack. Suddenly beauty bloggers and youtubers everywhere were loving it, but sadly it flaked horrifically on me! Regardless of waterproof or regular formula, I ended up with black speckles everywhere.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
Available at Sephora
This my friends is a sore subject for me. I LOVED this lip balm for months… before developing a horrible allergic reaction to it that left my lips blistering! Turns out I am allergic to something in Bite Beauty’s formula, because all of their lip balms, glosses and lipsticks do this to me. After a little research online I’ve come to find I am not alone. Such a shame, because it is a gorgeously hydrating balm.
