MAC X Caitlyn Jenner Collection

MAC Caitlyn Jenner Collection

It’s been a long while since a MAC limited edition collection well and thoroughly impressed me you guys. I was beginning to think the brand had given up on quality in their seasonal collections in favour of packaging and gimmicks. And then MAC launched the Caitlyn Jenner Collection and I remembered every reason why MAC has always been one of my makeup brand crushes.

MAC CAITLYN JENNER COLLECTION REVIEW

If you ever doubted MAC when it came to making pigmented powder products, the Caitlyn Jenner Collection is about to remedy that. To skip right past my obvious love for the shade choices, I am beyond impressed with the colour payoff going on! I was lucky enough to be sent 5 products from the range to try out and every single one of them far surpassed my expectations. Here’s what I am reviewing:

Unlike some limited edition collection, MAC went with collection-specific packaging for the Caitlyn Jenner collab. Instead of the signature matte black caps and lids, this line has gold and black detailing and comes in gold boxes. Sometimes gold can err on the side of tacky when it comes to plastic packaging, but thankfully this is just a little touch and does add a little something special to the collab. Normally I depot my MAC shadows but I might just keep these in their little homes…

As I previously mentioned, I am super excited about the colour selection for this collection. The reddened bronzes, coppers and plums are right up my street and Rock It! lipstick might be the perfect pink nude lippie ever. It’s super hydrating and balm like on the lips, and glides over my naturally pigmented and dry lips minus any streaking or gathering. I seriously couldn’t ask for me {that’s a lie, I could ask for it not to be limited edition!!}.

I also got the Creamsheen Glass in Kindness, which I normally wouldn’t have looked twice at but am so glad I got the chance to try! It’s a clear gloss with gorgeous micro shimmer that gives the lips this gorgeous plumped up glimmer that I’m really loving. I actually love it on its own, but it would make the perfect top coat gloss over your favourite lipstick.

The shadows that I have in this collection (I’m missing the shade Glowing Gold) are so stunning. I honestly can’t express enough how impressed I am with the colour payoff. In saying that I am mostly surprised because in recent years I feel like MAC has been quite hit or miss with their shadow formulations, but this time they nailed it. Unlike the dry and dusty textures many of the limited edition collections have, these are smooth and emollient to the touch and pick up well on my brush. I’ve been living for Malibu Bronze especially. If you pick up any of the shadows I would recommend this one!

I also got the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Compassion, which is a gorgeous warm toned bronzer if you are light-medium-tan skin toned. I find it looks best on me when I have a touch of self-tanner on. When I am a touch paler (NC20) it can get a bit too terracotta on my complexion and I must use a light hand as it tends to kick up quite a bit of powder when you dip your brush. I find it doesn’t apply as uniformly as my regular bronzer does and breaks up a bit on my skin midday. I’m not sure if maybe it’s because of the pigment used to create this tone because I’ve worn the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powders in Light Plus and Medium as my setting powders for years.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you couldn’t tell by now, the MAC Caitlyn Jenner collection was a massive hit for me. I’m thrilled to have so many quality products in one collaboration collection. I sincerely hope MAC considers making some of these permanent (Rock It! Lipstick, Malibu Bronze Shadow). Having said that, my only bugbear with the collection is falling in love with products that are limited edition that may never be able to purchase them again. Some of my all time favourite MAC products were never rereleased and I’m still salty about it!

In all seriousness, though, if you like colour scheme in this collection get online and order it asap. I can’t imagine it will hang around counters and part of the collection has already sold out online.

  1. MAC does so many colabs so they don’t sound exciting anymore….that’s why I always wait for the reviews & I really love plum eyeshadow and that lipstick 🙂

  2. The packaging is a little too brassy looking for me, but the colors of the shadows and lipsticks looks so good! I don’t find a lot of MAC collabs that exciting anymore, but I’m pleasantly surprised to hear that you thought this one is worth it!
