The All Drugstore One Brand Look: L’Oreal

One Brand Look Featuring L'Oreal

Something I have come to realise over the years is that I am a bit of a luxury cosmetic snob. I almost always subscribe to the idea of: “You get what you pay for” and usually find drugstore standout products are few and far between. Of course, that isn’t to say there aren’t some total GEMS in the drugstore, and one brand that has been impressing me time and time again is L’Oreal. So I decided to challenge myself to a one-brand look featuring all L’Oreal products. Some are new favourites, some are old favourites, some are underwhelming – keep reading to see how I got on!

How I Got the Look

I started out with the True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Rose, which I had really high hopes for (I love the originally Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer) but felt like it just did nothing on my skin. I didn’t see any highlighting, glow or extra luminosity and it didn’t do anything in terms of bettering my foundation.

I continued on with the Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation*, which boasts 24 hour wear (ridiculous, in all honesty) and a radiant, medium coverage with an ‘air-light’ finish. I’ll say right from the start that this foundation was instant love for me! I have a dedicated review up on it here, but for quick reference, I will say that it holds up to all of the claims (minus the 24 hour wear because I’m not willing to test it for that long!) and totally impressed me.

I then moved on to adding some shape with the Infallible Pro-Contour*, which easily looks like one of the better contouring/sculpting options from the drugstore in terms of tone. Besides the atrocious brush that came with it (seriously guys, just chuck that out and use one of your own) I feel like this lacked in the pigmentation department for me. If you tend to me heavy handed, or oppositely want something really subtle, this would be a nice choice, but for me it was just so-so.

The eyes are always my favourite part of makeup application, and I was excited to try another shade of the Infallible Eyeshadow range (you all know Amber Rush is my favourite – I actually have to try to NOT mention it as much as I would like to around here for monotony sakes!) and the shade Sahara Treasure* did not disappoint with its antique bronze colouring and creamy, rich pigmentation.

Another big winner of the look was the Le Palette Nude*, which actually knocked my socks off with its smooth texture and pigmented shades. I honestly was not expecting this to impress me, and I am eating my words! The mattes are buttery, the shimmers are smooth and the blendability was that of a luxury shadow. Kudos L’Oreal, you did real good on this one!

To finish things off, another surprising hit was The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner*! While I don’t normally prefer felt tipped liners, this one keeps it’s shape well and is quite firm which makes drawing a nice opaque line in one pass a breeze. I found this super black in pigment, and it dried down to a satin finish (I prefer matte, but this was darn close!) that lasted all day without flaking or smudging. Of course, two coats of the Voluminous Feline Waterproof Mascara was the final touch – it’s been my mascara of choice for the last couple of months!

Overall, I have to say that the hits of this one brand look are massive; The foundation, Shadow Palette and Mascara are all easily passable as high end luxury cosmetics! It’s so rare for me to find so many gems at the drugstore in one brand, but L’Oreal has been outdoing themselves lately.

  1. I have that mascara and it’s really good 🙂 Foundation is not available in Croatia but I hope it will be. I know it’s not drugstore but avon always surprises me-it’s inexpensive & easily available (love their lipsticks, blushes & foundation from Luxe line)

  2. Same here about the snobbiness! Rimmel has really been impressing me lately with their lip products and I’ve heard good things about their foundations!
