Benefit Goes Boi-ing!

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer Revamp and Expansion

Benefit Cosmetics have been on the re-launch bandwagon lately. First expanding and revamping their brow line, and now their concealers which are all now called Boi-ing, in different variations. Now consisting of 4 formulas (previously 3, which I’ll go into more) they claim to cover all your concealing wants and needs. I hold concealing products up to some pretty high standards so keep reading to find out if the new Boi-ing range lives up to my expectations!

In true Benefit Cosmetics style, the packaging of the Boi-ing range is uber cutesy/kitschy. The pink is a play on classic pink erasers and the ideology of erasing imperfections. Three out of the four formulas are in a pot form, which lends to a thicker texture and generally isn’t my favourite due to my dry skin. The one exception is the Hydrating formula, which comes in a lipstick-like tube.

I like that the brand has diversified the formula of the products to meet a multiple of concerns. However, I have to say I am disappointed by the shade range and lack of consistency within the formulas. If you look at my swatches you will see that there is a huge colour discrepancy. All are classed as ‘Shade 2″ but you can see that one leans quite yellow, and one looks significantly darker than the others even though they are all the second lightest shade in the range.

Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Concealer Breakdown

Boi-ing Hydrating ConcealerSephora Ulta

Originally, this was known as the “Fake Up Concealer”.

A sheer, lightweight coverage that is best suited to under eyes. The actual concealer is paired with a hydrating gel that helps it glide over fine lines and textured skin. In terms of shade range, this was the most yellow based out of the lot which I appreciated since it suits my undertone. It is enough for me on good days when I don’t look particularly tired (so basically, I won’t be reaching for this once baby arrives!). It does a nice job of brightening in combo with a higher coverage concealer.

Originally, this was known as “Erase Paste Concealer”.

This is a salmon/pink toned concealer that is meant to cancel out the bluish circles that show up under eyes. I’d tried the original formula before and this seems to be unchanged. Personally, I have never found pink-based under eye concealers work particularly well for me and this is no different; My dry under eyes just don’t like that much product layered. If you like a correcting concealer, the texture of this is creamy and pigmented and a little goes a long way.

Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer Sephora Ulta

This is a new formula addition to the range.

I was immediately interested in this formula as it claims to be waterproof. It claims a sheer-medium buildable, smoothing coverage and I would agree. This won’t cover the angriest of pimples, but it does a great job on discolorations and spots that foundation doesn’t cover enough. I also think this has the most neutral undertone of the lot which makes it suitable for full face concealing. The texture is slightly creamy, but not slippery or tacky.

Boi-ing Industrial Strength ConcealerSephora Ulta

The original Boi-ing Concealer.

The brand refers to this as heavy duty, full coverage with a matte look. For me, it’s too dry to use for much and the shade seems significantly darker than all the others in the same colour. I wish it was a creamier formula that then set, but those with oily or combo skin might appreciate it the way it is. Unfortunately, it is way too warm/orange toned for me to actually cover anything with.

Overall, the Benefit Boi-ing Concealer collection has some hits and misses for me. I love that the brand broke down formula by the need of the user, but the crappy colour selection (only 3!) is a letdown.  I would have liked the brand to expand the actual shade range to fit more people from pale to deep skin tones, then focus on other textures and uses.

Have you tried any of the new/revamped Benefit concealers? Which is your favourite concealer (from any brand)?

  1. Need to try one of these as I never tried any Benefit concealer before, but I’m afraid because the shades seem not suitable for me. At the moment my favorite is Tarte Shape Tape!
