The 90’s Face… Reinvented
Recently I’ve been all about revamping my favourite shades I rocked in the 90s (yep, I was a teenager in the 90s.. cough, don’t tell anyone). I’m talking a slick of liner, rosy nude cheeks and and pinky brown lip liner. Thankfully I feel like I’m pulling it off which much more finesse than I did in ’95… don’t worry, there was no hair mascara, cheek glitter or silver eyeliner used in this look!
Back in the day Mac Spice Lipliner was where it was (and this is the old formula which was much more of a nude brown, the one out currently pulls warmer). These days I’m going with Whirl, which is a bit more rosy neutral paired with Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in Rosewood 06.
Keeping it real when it comes to blush, I reached for Mac Prism. It was either that or Cubic as a constant in my life which I hit pan on many times (as did my Mum who also wore those shades!)
For eyes I went for a product that didn’t exist back then, but would have been a huge hit if it did, which was the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creamy Beige – a neutral toned camel brown. It reminds me alot of one of my first Mac Eyeshadows in Wedge, which was a mainstay in my life for ages. A slick of black liner in the way of NYC Liquid Liner (not too winged, just for definition!) and Benefit Roller Lash Mascara finishes the eyes. In the 90s it would have been Wet n Wild Liner, because those were the days before NYC was sold in stores here, and the mascara would have been L’Oreal Lash Out Mascara which was my all time favourite mascara of life until they discontinued it about 10 years ago. *sobs*
There you have it, and updated version of the makeup I would have worn on a day to day basis as a teen in the 90s. Don’t get me wrong, I had my moments with the blue eyeshadows and concealer lipsticks of the decade too ( I mention these monstrosities in this and this – read them for a laugh). Everything was about pinked up browns back then in a decade of Calvin Klein and ‘heroin-chic’ and grungy rough around the edges makeup. I’ve been taking the laid back ‘I don’t give a damn’ approach and refining it a bit and really enjoying it!
