Chanel’s Coco Codes Collection and Le Rouge Crayon

Chanel Coco Codes Collection Review and Swatches

The Chanel Coco Codes Collection is inspired by the five iconic colours of Chanel: Red, Black, Gold, White and Beige. On paper, I would have told you that it sounds a bit… snooze… I mean, how many times can Chanel interpret the colour red? Thankfully, off paper and in person, this collection is sophisticated pretty and wearable even for non-red lovers like myself!

CHANEL COCO CODES COLLECTION

The real showstopper of the Coco Codes Collection will be no doubt be the Blush Harmony; A quad of coral red, tan, pink-beige and bronze. Swirled together on a brush you get the most gorgeous, luminous bronze-watermelon shade. Of course, you can focus your brush on certain shades, but on their own, I find them uninteresting. The magic happens when you buff them all together!

If you couldn’t tell already, I am SO over matte lips. Having said that, I don’t love metallic lips either and the Rouge Coco Shine in 126 Beige Dore had me a bit worried. When I first uncapped it I thought, “gold shimmery lipstick? Eww.” Once again I was proven wrong though because this gives the most stunning golden glimmer to my lips. Notice I said glimmer and not shimmer; There is nothing frosty or metallic about this. It’s like a golden goddess glow and I am SO ok with it.

Another cheek product featured is the Joues Contraste in 370 Elegance. The warm neutral with gold shimmer is bit sparklier than I would prefer, as well as a bit sheerer than I would prefer. If you are any deeper in complexion than light-medium (say MAC NC25 or darker) you may struggle to get this to show up. In swatch, it builds up opaque, but with a brush, I really had to load up which is more effort than I like to put in when applying blush. Having said that, those who are very pale, or blush-wary would enjoy this subtle, easy to wear shade!

Lastly in the products I have from the Coco Codes Collection, is the Le Vernis 546 Rouge Red nail polish. This shade screams “classic Chanel red” to me – something any red lover should have in their collection!

CHANEL LE ROUGE CRAYON DE COULEUR

Technically not part of the Coco Codes Collection, but recently launched as well are the Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur. Chanel is finally on the chubby lip pencil bandwagon and they were worth the wait if you love bold colour that is super balmy and hydrating. There are 11 shades in the range and I imagine they will do really well given how incredibly comfortable they are on the lips. I also love that the product swivels up, and doesn’t require sharpening – kudos for that Chanel! I have the shade Tangerine and it is a gorgeous wearable coral that looks luminous and smooth on the lips.

FINAL THOUGHTS

For a red-based collection, I find Coco Codes surprisingly wearable for me (a non-red lover). There are two obvious winners in the new launches: Blush Harmony and Le Rouge Crayons. The more I use the Blush Harmony, the more I fall in love with it!

What is your favourite product in these new launches? Do you love reds?
