Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation Review

The Revamped Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation

Several years ago I fell in love with Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau Foundation. The formula was silky smooth and glided over the skin like butter but it had two major flaws: the shade selection was dismal and the formula oxidised like nothing I had ever worn before. So naturally when I saw it was being reformulated and relaunched I was beyond curious to see if it had in fact been improved!

The Shade Range

The original Lingerie de Peau Foundation only came in a handful of shades, and all of them were geared to a fair-medium complexion. The new formula has expanded in shade selection, now offering different undertones, but there is still nothing in the range for deeper skin tones. For those who have fair-medium skin, finding a colour match just got easier, but I am disappointed to still not see any options for deeper skin tones.

I will say the major flaw for me in the original formula was the oxidisation issues it had, with my foundation progressively getting up to 2 shades darker throughout the day. I’m thrilled to say Guerlain seems to have put a stop to this and the new formula stays the same tone/depth all day! I have the shade 02N and it matches my NC20 skin perfectly from the minute I put it on to the minute I take it off.

The Formula, Coverage and Wear Time

Formula wise, the texture of the foundation is slightly thinner and more liquidy than the original, but blends just as seamlessly and effortlessly. I love how easy it melts into the skin, leaving a radiant finish that sets well on its own and doesn’t need powder minus the odd spot where I naturally need a bit to keep things looking fresh. I have dry skin, and find that it doesn’t cling to flaky patches, nor does it leave me with a tacky or dewy feel to my face which is a massive plus for me! The coverage is light to medium, but buildable; I still need concealer for spots on my face, but LDP does a wonderful job of evening out my redness and blurring out pores and minor imperfections. It also has an SPF of 20 in it which is great for everyday wear (but you’ll need more coverage if you plan on being in direct sun!) I find the coverage lasts from morning to night, with some wear showing around the 10-hour mark.

One note of importance for those with sensitive noses: This has a definite rose scent to it. It’s not in the form of old-fashioned powdery synthetic rose that might remind you of your Nan, but rather like a fresh ripe rose that’s just bloomed; I adore the scent and find it doesn’t linger long, but you might not so count this as your warning!

Final Thoughts

I’m Sold.

I adore the rose scent (it honestly smells luxurious, which at $69CND I would say it is a luxury product) and the radiant finish it gives to my skin. The bottle claims Lingerie de Peau Foundation has a “skinfusion” texture and I suppose that is a fabulous term: it really does feel like it becomes one with my skin. I love that I don’t have to think when wearing this foundation, I can just buff it on with a brush slap-dash and it always looks incredible. This is easily one of those foundations that you can apply with your hands, a damp sponge or a brush and it just works.

  1. Like you, I also fell in love with the old formula. I got a sample that looked okay when applied in the morning but oxidised like CRAZY and by the time I got home in the evening, I was an oompa loompa! I have combo/oily skin and surprisingly, the formula worked really well for me (only needing a bit of powder). I’m sooooo keen to get a sample of the new formula in a better shade and see how it fares. Thanks for the review!
