This Just In: MAC SpellBinder Eyeshadows + Giveaway!

MAC Spellbinder Eyeshadow Swatch and Review

Alright folks, this might be one of the most unique, possibly borderline gimmick, products that has come out of the beauty world in a long while. I feel like MAC has been on fire this year with new innovations, and the Spellbinder Eyeshadows most definitely fall into that category! Magnetically charged with ionised pigments that fuse together for maximum payoff and zero fallout? Trust me, I was skeptical.

MAC claims the Spellbinder Shadows are ‘deeply mesmerising’, and ‘cling to the lids like velvet’  – what they can’t possibly describe (and which I might not be able to either!) is how unique this makes the texture off the pigment in the jar. See that pattern on the loose shadow? That’s created with the magnetised pigments meaning that regardless if you swipe your finger, brush or use half the pot, the pattern stays the same. Cool bonus party trick? Definitely, but does it effect the wear of the shadows positively?

Colour Payoff & Performance

I was so wowed by these that I just assumed that they must be just like MAC’s regular pigments with crazy cool patterning. On the contrary, these have a blackened base, give the colour something to really pop off of. All the shades are currently dark and sultry – but I would love to see the technology span into some lighter metallics! Currently, these are limited edition, but I am hoping MAC releases them permanently.

I tested three shades, and all performed well past my expectations! They apply easily with brush or fingers, and blend out perfectly! A lot of the time dark shadows go muddy and patchy as you blend out the edges, but these had a beautiful give to them that would make even the most novice smokey eye attempts a breeze. I was impressed at how versatile these were in terms of softening out the look as well; If you’re afraid these might be too dark for you not to worry because they buff out really nicely with a soft brush! I wore Higher Power washed over the lid {shown below} to Thanksgiving Dinner earlier this week just softly buffed over the lid as a one-shadow look and loved how it turned out. Talk about easy!

I know what you’re all wanting to know though: Do these ‘loose’ pigments have a ton of fallout? And the answer is NO! I really expected to have dark specs everywhere, given the nature of the shade and the style of product but the magnetized particles actually work! Genius! I’m guessing this is also what helped my shadow last all day minus the use of primer or base, without creasing.
