Just When You Thought They Were Done: Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits Collection

Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits Review and Swatches
The collaboration that had makeup lovers stalking their local Sephora’s is back again, and possibly for the very last incarnate. Becca teamed up with Jaclyn Hill (Youtube extraordinaire) on several new launches this Spring and Summer and the last addition to the range hit stores recently is The Champagne Splits Shimmering Skin Perfector Mineral Blush Duos. Not only are they exclusive to Sephora, but they are limited edition which has had some beauty lovers a little perturbed. So, the big question is: are these worth the continued hype, or should you pass for the next big launch?

So if you haven’t had enough of the Champagne Pop craze in the last year, the new Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Splits Duos are definitely for you. While some beauty lovers are frustrated that the brand has continued to create so much hype around the much talked about product, each time claiming it is ‘limited edition’ and ‘never to be seen again’, the peachy-gold shimmering highlighter powder seems to keep popping up. This time round Becca has taken four of its Mineral Blush shades, and split the pans with two shades of their famed Shimmering Skin Perfectors: Champagne Pop, and Prosessco Pop (previously only seen in the Becca X Jaclyn Hill Face Palette). If it strikes you as odd to make a product limited edition that has regular line blushes in it, you’re not alone; The brand has had some backlash over the constant limited edition nature of its launches. Drama aside, I think it would be a brilliant permanent edition to the already gorgeous range.

Right off the bat I was actually really excited for these, given I’ve been a big fan of Becca’s blushes in the past. I noticed that all four blushes felt a tad dry to the touch in the pan, but didn’t look dry or powdery in the least when swatching or applying with a brush. While the colour might seem a bit stiff because of this, the pigmentation is still what I expect from Becca, buffing and blending out beautifully. Both shimmery highlighter shades felt smooth and silky to the touch, and performed exactly how my full sized Shimmering Skin Perfectors do.
Each compact is split evenly between blush and Becca’s famed Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed, and comes in the signature Becca style compact with gold plastic and pewter metal instead of the classic rubberized charcoal brown/pewter metal casing. Together, the powder duos weigh in just slightly under the standard Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed at 7.95grams vs 8grams. I personally think that the brand was smart in their layout, making it easy to dip your brush in either the highlighter or the blush shade, and the powders are divided so that there is no ‘colour contamination’ which can be so annoying.

There are four blush options for the Champagne Splits Collection, two paired with Champagne Pop which I have already reviewed here, and two with the new and exclusive Prosecco Pop. Unlike its older sister Champange Pop which is a softer peach, Prosecco Pop is more of a true gold shade. Personally, on my light-medium complexion (NC25) I find it too brassy in tone to be overly wearable, but I can see deep olive, tan and dark skin tones wearing it absolutely stunning. I’ve also been known to wear my Champagne Pop as eyeshadow more than a time or two, and Prosecco Pop could most definitely get some multiuse that way as well!

In the end, I think that the Champagne Splits are a fabulous idea, and perform beautifully. What I don’t get is why they are limited edition, when Becca has had such collosal success collaborating with Jaclyn Hill already. They have a winning product on their hands, and combining it with their already permanent blush range seems like a natural addition to any cosmetic brand lineup. If you’ve been wanting to try Champagne Pop, but don’t want to splurge on the full sized compact, this is a great way to get two products to try at the same time!
If you were playing a drinking game to see how many times I said ‘Champagne’ in this post, you’re probably blackout drunk currently, and if not, let me know what your thoughts on the whole Becca and Jaclyn Hill colab craze in the comments below!
