Starting with the newest to to me are the Illamasqua Cream Pigments, namely in Hollow and Androgen. Hollow has been hyped up plenty as a cream contour product, and I can see why – pale girls and guys, this one is for you! It blends on as a cool taupe and makes it hard to be heavy handed. It makes an awesome base for contouring if you find your powder product wears away, but is lovely on its own. Medium and darker skinned folks take heed though, this might be ashy on you.
Being that I have dryer skin, I love the idea of cream products. What I don’t like the idea of is my makeup slipping and sliding around or the lack of pigment and greasy feel some cream makeup has. Here’s a (large) handful of cream makeup products that I think live up to the hype and perform likewise.
Androgen is a gorgeous yellow based pink that strikes me as being a cream version of my fave Illamasqua Blush in Tremble. This is one of the few cream blushes that actually sticks around for me. It goes on creamy and then kind of sets, but not powdery like cream to powder products. No sticky cream blush here!
You know I’ve rattled on plenty here about the Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams before so I wont go on more. I’ll just say these are bulletproof when it comes to creasing and melting away. Put em on in the morning and take it off at night. I wish the line had more wearable colours for everyday, and more matte shades.
Similarily (though not as creamy in texture) are the Maybelline Color Tattoos. These have a thicker texture but do stay put. I find them more opaque than Mac Paint Pots, but a word to the wise: stick with the neutrals in this line. The bolder colours can be a bit of a let down pigment wise. My current favourite is Creamy Beige – an everyday wearable matte tan colour.
Another amazing cream product for eyes are the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks – these blend out beautifully (whilst still keeping their pigment) and don’t tug at the eye when applying. The colours are all gorgeous and the convenience of a twist up stick is super appealing. The best part is that they set and then stay all day, keeping their shimmer. My favourites are Burnished Bronze (shown above) Amethyst and Rosegold.
Finally, and possibly one of thee most hyped of cream products of years recent, Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel, a cream bronzing product. I think the reason folks have a love hate with this is because they use it incorrectly. It is NOT a contouring product, it really is much too warm for that. It is meant to be a bronzing makeup base. As in you blend it on top of your foundation/base to warm up your complexion. On me it looks best on the tops of cheekbones, bridge of the nose and high parts of the forehead to make it look like I’ve been kissed by the sun. I always pair this with a warm toned blush to really play into the look.
What are your favourite cream products? Any that don’t get talked about enough?
