  • SUPER BASE(S) | The Foundation Breakdown

Every morning when open my base drawer (yes, that’s right, I have a drawer dedication to foundations, tinted moisturisers and BB creams. Don’t judge…) I choose my foundation of choice by the way I want my skin to look that day. So I thought I’d do a base breakdown for you on all on a few of my favourites.

Illamasqua Skin Base is the base I reach for when my skin is just not looking tops. It’s a thick creamy full coverage that I love to mix with luminizers and other bases that need a little help in the coverage department.

The oil free version of cult favourite Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser packs more coverage than the original and is easily blended in with fingers. It’s a no fuss, slap it on and go all rounder base that sports SPF 20.

MAC’s Full Coverage is basically their famous Studio Finish Concealer but a tad more emollient. It’s for days when you really need to cover a bevy of sins. A densely packed damp buffing brush is key here for that airbrushed look.

The much raved about by yours truly, under dog of a foundation – Make Up For Ever’s Face and Body. Unlike the similar named MAC offering this stuff doesn’t stay tacky on the skin, and is endlessly buildable whilst still looking like skin. When I wear this I get compliments like “You have such beautiful skin” versus “Wow I love your makeup”. ‘Nuff Said.

The drugstore favourite, Rimmel’s Wake Me Up is a gorgeous creamy foundation with a subtle luminosity that keeps me reaching for it over and over. It’s price comes in around $10 which makes it a great choice to pick up in a few shades to mix in transition months when your skin may lighten or darken.

Do you rotate foundation by how your skin feels/looks? What are your favourites and why?
